Nicaraguan rum Flor de Caña, which has a huge community of fans in the Czech Republic, has prepared an exceptionally sharp ammunition: Flor de Caña V Generaciones, a thirty-year-old projectile, of which only 411 numbered bottles were filled from a single barrel. The edition is a tribute to five generations of the Pellas family, which has been dedicated to rum production for one hundred and thirty years. The names of the representatives of each generation are listed - including a facsimile of their signatures - on the right tab of the box, in which the rarest of the Flor de Caña bottlings is kept. The left tab is a bonus that secret philatelists among collectors will appreciate: a replica of a postage stamp worth 1 centavo from 1902. It depicts one of more than thirty volcanoes and one of six lava lakes, by listing which lobbyists at the time tried to dissuade the United States government from its intention to build a shipping canal through Nicaragua. They succeeded. Today we know it as the Panama Canal. The stopper is covered with authentic lava from the San Cristóbal volcano, which rises near the distillery. It symbolizes the exceptionally useful subsoil on which sugar cane is grown for the production of rum. The plant is then commemorated in relief on the bottle itself. It can be expected that Flor de Caña V Generaciones will become an object of interest for investors in alternative investments as well as collectors. We have tasted the rum and can confirm that it has a number of organoleptic characteristics typical of aged sugar cane distillates, but at the same time it has something extra, namely the thirty years during which it has developed into a pure aroma, in which vanillin from burnt American white oak barrels is mixed with a subtle tobacco veil underlined in the background by aromatic coffee. The taste is perfectly harmonious, not lagging behind the aroma. Cocoa, leather and a still damp cigar are added.
